Our fabulous 8th Grade Scholars were assigned the task of creating their very own Rube Goldberg machines at home.
A Rube Goldberg machine, named after American cartoonist Rube Goldberg, is a chain reaction-type machine or contraption intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way.
The project assigned required the scholars to use as many of the six types of simple machines (Lever/Pulley/Inclined Plane/Screw/Wheel & Axle/Wedge) as they could incorporate into the continuous motion of energy. Each type of machine was awarded 15 points and an additional point for each second of the total time of the run.
