St. James offers several opportunities for tuition reduction. Awards are in the form of specific named scholarship, SAM Grants, Active-Duty Law Enforcement and Firefighters Grants, Opportunity Grants, COTGS Parishioner Grants, and Financial Assistance. These funds come from endowments, special donations, and foundation grants.

*All Scholarship, Grant, or Financial Assistance applicants must first apply for Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) and provide written proof of acceptance or denial.
Financial Assistance, Opportunity Grant, and COTGS Parishioner Grant applicants must also apply at FACTS by May 1 of the current school year for additional tuition reduction. All Financial Assistance decisions are made by the Financial Aid Committee, are confidential and final. Scholars receiving grants or Financial Assistance must remain in good standing academically and ready for the rigor of a St. James education.

The following named scholarships offer Financial Assistance to scholars who demonstrate they would be assets to our School, are based on household income below $70,000, and are awarded a 35%-50% reduction in tuition:
SJES Scholarship, Robert Douglas Browning Scholarship, John F. Cram Memorial Scholarship

Financial Assistance applicants *must apply for TEFA and ARE required to apply through FACTS.

Opportunity Grant is awarded to scholars who demonstrate they would be assets to our School, siblings of prior recipients of Opportunity Grant, or scholars who show great promise of growing up to be significant contributors to the larger community. The Opportunity Grant is offered to families whose combined household income falls between $70,000 and $130,000. Opportunity Grants are awarded based on household income and the number of children attending St. James. Opportunity Grants are awarded a 20-35% reduction in tuition.
Sibling discounts do not apply. To qualify or requalify for this grant, you must apply each year.
Opportunity Grant applicants *must apply for TEFA and ARE required to apply through FACTS.

This grant is intended to offer our premier education to individuals who protect and serve our community and provides a 25% reduction in tuition for scholars.  Like our other tuition reduction programs, scholars must remain developmentally and academically ready for the rigors of a St. James education and are renewable as long as the parent remains in active duty. Sibling discounts do not apply.
To qualify or requalify for this grant, law enforcement or firefighters must present their current ID yearly.
CCFD, CCPD, and Law Enforcement Grant applicants *must apply for TEFA and are NOT required to apply through FACTS.

The SAM Grant was established in recognition of those who actively serve in the defense of our country.  St. James understands our military bear a special burden in the education of their children because of multiple, short deployments in a variety of settings. The SAM Grant is intended to provide our premier education to families whose lives are dedicated to keeping our nation free, whose values are strong, and whose sense of responsibility is keen and clear.
The SAM Grant offers a 25% reduction in tuition for one scholar (the oldest), a 35% reduction for the second sibling (next oldest), and a 45% reduction for any additional siblings.  SAM Grants are renewable as long as the parent remains ACTIVE MILITARY in our area.
To qualify or requalify for the SAM Grant, ACTIVE MILITARY must present their current ID YEARLY.
SAM Grant applicants *must apply for TEFA and are NOT required to apply through FACTS.

COTGS Parishioner Grant is awarded to scholars who demonstrate they would be assets to our School, and whose families are members in good standing and active participants of the Church of the Good Shepherd (COTGS).
The COTGS Grant is designed to assist COTGS families whose annual income is between $130,000-$250,000.

• Families with income between $130,000 and $175,000 are awarded a 12-20% reduction in tuition.
• Families with income between $175,000 and $250,000 are awarded a 5-12% reduction in tuition.

COTGS Parishioner Grant applicants *must apply for TEFA and ARE required to apply through FACTS.

The Aurich-Taylor-Smith Scholarship is established to benefit families attending St. James Episcopal School who have multiple children (three or more) attending St. James or are hoping to enroll multiple children for the coming school year. Families who qualify and are in need may contact the Head of School.
ATS Scholarship applicants *must apply for TEFA and are NOT required to apply through FACTS.

To be considered for Tuition Reduction Opportunities, applicants must have submitted a signed 2026-2027 contract, have paid the $500.00 Non-Refundable Enrollment Deposit, and, if currently enrolled, must have paid all other tuition, fees, and supplemental balances due. In addition, to be considered for Tuition Reduction Opportunities, applicants must show written proof of application for, and acceptance or denial of selection to receive funds from the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA).

The TEFA Application process opens February 4, 2026, and closes March 17, 2026.
The deadline to apply for Financial Assistance at FACTS  is May 1, 2026.

All scholarship, grant, and financial assistance recipients must re-apply each year by submitting the FACTS Financial Assistance data online by May 1 of the current school year. You may be asked to submit other financial information as required by the Financial Aid Committee. The tuition amount awarded is subject to change yearly based on the information submitted.
The Financial Aid Committee will notify applicants of award decisions on or before May 15 each year.
